They Shall Tremble

O Lord make Your presence be known
Let it be known in the work of my hands
In all my undertakings

Let all my work be a joy and praise to You
Be an honour to Your name
Before all the nations
That they hear the perfect work You have done in us

The nations shall fear and tremble[1]
Their ways will not work
They will be in awe
At the abundant prosperity that You have provided for us

I walk in Your total inheritance
What is Yours is mine in Christ
That is what I have
I have it in all in Christ

O Lord it is Your joy
To see the nations tremble
At our abundant prosperity[2].

Amen.

My speech at my sister's wedding in Burswood Resort Hotel (March 30, 2002)

My sister Siew Won with her twins - Joshua (left) & Isabel (right) Good evening. Honorable guests, ladies and gentlemen, friends and relatives. It is indeed my pleasure to say a few words on behalf of Siew Won’s family. Firstly, Mum and dad must thank all the friends and relatives that are here for tonight’s wedding. To Siew Won and Derek’s friends, thank you for being here and I am sure it means a lot to them, having friends here who mean something to them, friends who have touched and impacted their lives in one way or another over the years. A few of you have known either Derek or Siew Won in high school before they knew each other. Some of you I am sure you have witnessed how the two of them initially met, how the friendship began, that how it has now blossomed into this wonderful relationship and tonight’s marriage. Mum and dad would also like to thank the squadrons of relatives and friends that have flown over here specifically for tonight’s wedding. Uncles, Aunts, close friends from Malaysia, Singapore, Sydney, Darwin and Melbourne, we are all indeed grateful that you are all able to be here to celebrate this special occasion with our family. On behalf of Siew Won and her siblings, I must take this opportunity to thank my mum and dad for being great parents, in raising Siew Won, Lee Won, Ee won and myself up to be what we are today. Though Siew Won has left home 10 years ago, a lot of her formative years were spent at home. The foundations that mum and dad laid, and the values that they passed on has undeniably influenced the course of her life, and the successes that we all have achieved, be it in academia, work, or our personal lives. Our family must also thank Derek’s family in looking after Siew Won in our absence. Uncle Kar Leong, Aunt Lena, and Yvvone you have not only formally accepted her into their family today, but at heart have also treat her very much like their own; as a beloved daughter. You have given her your best, your all. To this we are very grateful. Showering her with so much love, so much care. Siew Won you are indeed very blessed to be part of their family, and we are comforted by the fact that you could live within such warmth and having such love to lean upon. Derek, we congratulate your on wedding night. Our family is proud and delighted to have you as part of our family. It has been said a man’s wealth is not in what he has, what he has achieved or what he has been awarded, rather it is his character or how he has and is investing in eternity. We praise and thank God for sending Derek to be part of our family, for he is a man of character, integrity, trustworthy and a man who lives and walks in grace. Your patience and dedicated love have won over Siew Won to yourself. We know you will continue to give Siew Won the care, she deserves. Siew Won we all love you back home. Those who could not come over for tonight’s wedding send their love and regards. Siew Won you have sublime gifts, talents, dynamism and ability, we know you will continue to prosper in your life here. Siew Won all of us are proud of you and what you have achieved. We have seen how every period of difficulty, and how every moment of trial has seen you grown from strength to strength. Siew Won, of course we prefer you to be back home with us, but such is life, it is not our will but His will be done, and more importantly we want you to be happy and we know you will be the most happiest spending the rest of life here in Perth with Derek. May you continue to prosper in every area of your life and continue to find happiness and success in your life ahead. As I went through the wedding ceremony, I could not help but realize that this is not just another ordinary marriage. In some cultures, marriage are arranged, some out of convenience. Yet in some advance societies such as ours, marriage has lost its permanence, lost its meaning. Derek and Siew Won as you both exchanged the wedding wows and both said “I do”, I know both of you have committed it to be a marriage that is permanent, loving, a marriage that is God-honoring and having God’s glory as a priority. Marriage is a wonderful thing created by God. Putting the two of you together was, to me it is unmistakably divine. God makes things beautiful in its time. I realize in this room there are people from all walks of life, different cultures, different generations, and having different perspective on what a marriage is. Those that were at the church service this morning would have witnessed that that the two of them submitted their marriage to the lordship of Christ. That is the basis of a Christian marriage. I urge you both to live out the fullness of God, which is in Christ.Live in Him and Him in you. Knowing that this attribute will not only form the cornerstone of your success and that of the marriage, but also be the values that encompass the secret of your own happiness together, and that which defines your own destiny. Derek and Siew Won your wedding is in the middle of Easter. May it remind you that God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in Him. I pray that you will both nurture this love that you have received, a love that is kind, patient, forgiving and more importantly ‘giving’, and that it be conveyed and touch the hearts of others in your lives. As I conclude, I pray Siew Won and Derek that may grace and joy abound in your marriage, peace be in your home and that love continue to be the very reason we live. God bless you all
