My Age Doesn't Disqualify Me

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin have been overheard discussing organ transplants as a means of prolonging life on the sidelines of a military parade in Beijing. But of course we in the Regenerative Medicine field know it is beyond just organ transplant… but transplanting stem cells or tissue reengineering with cells of your own DNA, gene therapy etc.

"In the past, it used to be rare for someone to be older than 70 and these days they say that at 70 one's still a child," Xi's interpreter could be heard saying in Russian.

An inaudible passage from Putin follows. His Mandarin interpreter then added: "With the development of biotechnology, human organs can be continuously transplanted, and people can live younger and younger, and even achieve immortality."

Xi's interpreter then said: "Predictions are, this century, there's a chance of also living to 150 [years old]."

“Even at 70 one is still a child” remarked Xi Jinping.  So at 56, I am barely an infant still.  Medical science has progressed and certainly we are living in an era where living healthily to 120-150 isn’t impossible.

What is old?

In 2014, Malaysia raised the mandatory retirement age for the private sector from 55 to 60.  Now at age 56, I would have had to retire under the previous Act. I feel healthier, vibrant and energetic that ever before. I am having regular detox, stem cells and secretome therapy systemically and localised treatment to my scalp and reproductive organs.

My age doesn’t disqualify me from growth!  It doesn’t stop me from pursuing my dreams. I have had more time to reflect on where I want to go and a more considered view of future goals compared to when I was young.  My decades of knowledge and experience is the foundation and “not the ceiling”.

Never Quit

I refuse to let temporary setbacks become permanent defeats. Sometimes quitting seems logical.  If Thomas Edison had quit after 1000 failures we will still be living in darkness. Despite numerous failures, setbacks, and doubts, the Wright brothers persisted through tireless trial-and-error and their deep understanding of aerodynamics to achieve their historic breakthrough and gave us the aeroplane. The same goes for many things like the i-phone, EV cars, Wellness City etc, because someone didn’t QUIT.

People still question me why I still want to start a family at this age. Critics will ask why I still want to adventure to certain businesses when I am at an age to relax and slow down.  Simple! I was building my foundation all along. In fact in the last few years more opportunities have opened up to me than ever before. Each step that I took sets the foundation for the next step.

Living for approval

There are adults who need approval from others before they dare to step out. They will ask their mother, father, sister or brother for assurance. They have no courage to live by their own decision – be it right or wrong – and live by it.

I do not want to live this kind of life whereby I need validation from others. Aren’t you too old for that? That sounds risky! Why don’t you just  enjoy retirement?  If you are waiting for everyone to clap you before you move, then you will never move at all. They will have multiple reasons why it won’t work, and why you don’t need to do this and that.

Don’t let their fear of your failure to prevent you from even trying. Don’t wrestle with their doubts.

Often they are projecting their own limitation onto your vision.  They are not being mean, they are being protective. But protection and progress don’t mix. Difference between seeking wisdom and seeking permission. Seeking approval from others isn’t just a waste of time but a form of self-sabotage.  Wisdom comes from people who has been where you want to go.  Permission comes from people who wants you to stay where you are. The people whom you are seeking approval from often are those who has not achieved the things you want to achieve. They are projecting their own limitations.

I am slowly developing my inner validation but it doesn’t mean I become arrogant and  ignore advice from others. Decide what you want  after listening and go for it.

Self Investment

Invest in yourself. Beside investing in the things of God and His kingdom that is the only investment that is guaranteed to give you a dividend. Invest in your ability to make money. Invest in your skill sets. Invest in your health. There are many rich people but aren’t willing to invest in their health. To live to 150 you need to meticulously chase health. You need to be vain and obsessed with your health. Are you investing ten (10%)  to twenty (20%)percent of your income on your health yearly?

I just published 3 new health books the last 3 years. For each page I write ,I have probably read  ten (10) pages.  I am still writing. All the book writing is investing time in my own learning.  Real estate can  tank, the share market can crash but my skills is recession proof.  My current knowledge and experience is the foundation not the ceiling. There is still so much more for me to learn and I have not peaked yet.

What is real success?

Choose people that sees your potential and not your past. I have had my failures but now surround myself with people who see not what I currently am, but what I can become! I am grateful to my business partners that invited me to join them. They have seen my potential and not my current flaws and shortcomings.

It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich, And He adds no sorrow to it. (Proverbs 10:22)

Success isn’t about money or wealth but who you built it with even if you are single like me. Surround yourself with people who sees your potential. You need cheerleaders not critics. Life is too short to stay around people who makes your dreams feel smaller. Yes I have dreams that are bigger than ever. Wealth isn’t what you chase but what you become. It is an inside job. It’s the result of developing the right habits,  correct mind set and character traits. It is not outward looking. It is not what stocks to buy or what business to start. Most people think wealth it is about being in the right place at the right time but its more than that. God will bring the right opportunity, right people when the time is right. But it is about developing into the type of person that naturally attracts opportunities and knows how to capitalize on it.

If you took away all the money from someone who is genuinely wealthy, not just lucky, what would happen?  They will rebuild it as they still have the most important asset- themselves. The habits that creates wealth are the habits that sustain it. Persistence when others quit. Independent thinking when others follow the crowd. Continuous learning when others think they know enough.

It is never too late in the eyes of God

It is never too late to become the person you envisage yourself to be. Age doesn’t disqualify me. I have decades of experience to build upon and draw on, and have time and a clearer mind than a younger person to select specific skills I need to learn.

Yes President Xi. Even at 70 one is still like a child. Therefore I will forever  will keep my childlike faith in Him, and have complete trust, humble dependence, and unwavering belief in God's goodness and promises to me.

Amen!
