Speech for my sister Ee Won's wedding (Nov 25, 2006)

Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished guests, family and friends.

It is my privilege to give the speech on behalf of my dad. It is a privilige not only becoz its my sister’ wedding but becoz I was asked by dad to speak on his behalf. There are some of dad’s friends who know him well enough to know that he loves to be on stage to have his say. There are also enough of dad’s friends here to have been to enough dinners with him to have seen him go on stage at other people’s wedding, invited or uninvited, to say his few words. So it is a real privilige to for me to be ahead of the cue instead of dad to say a few words.

Mum and dad must thank all the friends and relatives that are here for tonight’s wedding. To those that came from afar, and to all of you who has taken precious time to make it here, we truly appreciate it. To Ee Won and Terrence’s friends, thank you for being here and I am sure it means a lot to them.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents for raising all of us to be what we are today. They have always loved us with all they have, and with all the ways they know. Just want to say, mum and dad we all love from the bottom of our hearts.

Ee Won you are indeed a treasured daughter and sister at home. When Ee Won was young, dad use to pick her up from school (Assunta) and take her to A&W. Her favorite food was Fried Chicken. But over the years her taste has changed. Now she has a real, real , real fine taste for food, clothes, designer handbags and shoes. So, Terrrence GOT THE HINT? Therefore it is not surprising that Terrence has gone to work in London for a few years to prepare to have a life with Ee Won. Only joking!. I am sure it is for career advancement etc. Maybe if you ask your wife to lower her taste you don’t have to suffer so long in London.

Ee Won on a serious note, (if I can ever be serious), you are a wonderful lady, beautiful and intelligent and a good heart for others. One thing about Ee Won is that she may want the best, but she also gives the best. She never gives her left overs to us and friends in terms of her time and resources. That to me is the 'spirit of excellence'. I pray that God will continue to bless you in all areas and use you to touch others. God had indeed call you blessed.

When you have parents like ours who works day and night, so that you can have the best education and the best in life ---- THAT IS A REAL BLESSING.

When you have achieved so much success in your career at such a young age – THAT IS GOD’S GRACE.

When you have in-laws who accept you as if you are their very own – THAT IS SOMETHING.

And when you have the man you truly love ---- THAT IS THE FINEST THING IN LIFE .

Terrence, we congratulate you on wedding night. Our family is proud and delighted to have you as part of our family. Ee Won is lady with a mind of her own. Often when we ask her to do something, she may not agree instantly, or after much protest. But today, in the church service, when you asked for her hand, it is one of the rare occasions that Ee Won actually agreed to something without any protest.

Mr & Mrs.Tan, we formally welcome you to our family and hope that we will continue to cement our relationship and friendship beyond tonight’s wedding.

To the both of you. I wish you the very best in your life together and every magical moment that life can bring, and may God continue the cornerstone of your lives and the foundation of your marriage.
