Same storm, Different boats

The MCO/lockdown is about to gradually ease and tomorrow some sectors of the economy will gradually reopen. However, there are heated debates regarding this reopening even within my household let alone the country and world at large.

For instance, though not objecting to the easing of the MCO restrictions, Nipah virus expert Datuk Dr Lam Sai Kit opines that the loosening of the MCO is too soon citing that the infection numbers have not gone down sufficiently. On the contrary, others are protesting that they need to work as the cash have run dried, while some says we have achieved the objective of flattening the curve and can slowly ease these restrictions.

This dichotomy is valid as we are not in the same boat. We all have differing challenges, predicaments, health status, age, financial strength and social/work flexibility. There is a graphic being shared in the social media “We are not all in the same boat, though we are all in the same storm”.

We are all in for stormy ride. Some will have a less bumpy one, some more turbulent. The people must be prepared to endure the Covid-19 pandemic at least for the next two years. But the Malaysian health system is ready for any spike in cases that may pop up now and then, says Tan Sri Dr Jemilah Mahmood the special health adviser to the PM.

I pray Lord Jesus that You will be in my boat to shelter me and calm me, however threatening the storms I encounter (Mark 4:35-39). Even the storms listen to You.

Yes the economy is looking terrible. The Finance Minister said yesterday this will be the worst recession in Malaysian history. https://www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2020/05/589338/malaysia-facing-worst-economic-recession-its-history

But with Lord Jesus in my boat, surely, I will not be barren during this recession, but have net breaking breakthroughs financially and all aspects of my life (Luke 5:5-6).

O’ Lord please be with me in my boat. You who calm the storms, You who caused Peter to have net breaking, boat sinking harvests. Amen Yes Lord.
