Happy New Year 2021

The time has arrived to welcome 2021.

Some perhaps are still recovering from the battle scars from the year that it was, while others can be philosophical and reflect on a most chaotic year. A few may have lost their jobs, while some have weathered through the drama, still with a little extra and the grace to do a little charity or help others with their basic needs. Some are perhaps still suffering from COVID – fatigue. The pandemic has affected our society in the short-term and will shape it in the long-term.

While there are still armed conflicts around the globe, racial violence, religious bloodbaths; our latest enemy is invisible to the naked eye and is a common foe regardless of our creed or faith.  But in truth, the real war can only be seen and fought by our spirit “for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” Eph 6:12. God has put a stopwatch on the devil’s wrist and he knows he is running out of time. Hence we need  to be close to God more than ever in 2021 to alert us of the enemy’s schemes as he is increasingly getting desperate.

The festive season is in the air but no doubt with a sense of ambivalence and also apprehension. This uneasines is understandable as there are still many unknowns in the coming year. How do we as individuals fit into all these uncertainties? Will we get vaccinated and will it help? How will the economy turn out next year? But as we slowly emerge out from the various versions of MCOs in place to a “new” normal albeit rising COVID-19 numbers, what will the new normal look like for us?

I don’t have all the answers but people will need Jesus more than ever. With all the talk about how the virus will change life as we knew it, one thing it will not change is the fact people will need Jesus more than ever – you, me and those who are still in darkness. We have seen how the world has undergone more changes this year than the last few put together – ZOOM meetings, work from home, home deliveries to name a few. Churches too had to evolve and had pivot to online church services and small groups, and even the elderly and less internet savvy amongst us have now overcome the hurdle of learning how to fellowship on a digital platform.

I see God speeding up His work in the remnants in 2021. There will be a new glory upon the church. We will have overflow and God will open many doors to fulfil His promises to us so that we can be a blessing to our community, our generation - the poor, the homeless and the needy.

Some are perhaps still waiting on God for a breakthrough and fulfillment of His promises. Let me tell you, we are about to set foot on the promise land. Some of us have indeed entered. God may take a little longer to make a few of us “ready”, coz of stubbornness or disobedience, but He will fulfill all the promises in our lives. We see things from beginning to the end, but God sees things from the end to the beginning. He sees us as a finished product. Above all He is a faithful God who wants to see us all succeed.

So let’s ARISE and SHINE in 2021 and beyond.

Happy New Year!
