I now have a BASE- no more wandering in the wilderness

For many years, I wandered through the wilderness as far as my career was concerned—lost, directionless and financially struggling. At times, I felt like the Israelites in the wilderness: moving from one place to another without knowing exactly where I was going.

Yet, even during those years, God was not absent. He was preparing me, teaching me and connecting me with people who would become important in the future.

As Scripture says:

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”
—Psalm 37:23, KJV

In 2020, when I was dead broke and depending on dad to give me a couple of hundred Ringgit per month pocket-money, a breakthrough came when I secured a consulting position that has continued until today. Although the work was uncertain and could be terminated at any time, it became an important provision during a difficult season. I now realise that what seemed like a temporary opportunity was also part of God’s preparation for the next chapter of my life.

On 2024-25, I spent eight months in Shanghai. The collaboration did not work out as planned, but the experience was not wasted. I learned about new medical technologies and established valuable connections that may now benefit my wellness clinic.

This reminds me of Romans 8:28:

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Even the disappointments, delays and failed collaborations contributed to my growth. God used experiences that did not succeed to prepare me for something more purposeful.

Lecturing at UTMSpace

Later, I was invited to create and teach courses at UTMSpace. I developed and taught three-day courses and was paid approximately RM200 per student. Although I did not own the learning institute, the opportunity allowed me to develop my teaching abilities, build relationships and gain experience in education and professional training.

Eventually, the arrangement fell apart after I had a disagreement with the owner. The institute controlled the finances, managed student recruitment and owned the institutional platform. However, many of the students eventually became my friends, and those relationships have remained valuable.

That season taught me an important lesson: it is possible to work hard and make a meaningful contribution while still not having control over the foundation of the work.

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”

—Psalm 127:1, ESV

A New Opportunity with USM

I have now been approached by another learning institute to offer the same three courses through USM. USM has approved both the syllabus and the courses.

This opportunity is different from the previous one. I will be involved in marketing the courses, student recruitment will be conducted jointly, and the fees will be paid directly to me before I pay the other parties. I now have greater responsibility, greater accountability and greater control.

I do not see this merely as a business arrangement. I see it as an opportunity that God has opened at the right time.

“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.”
—Proverbs 16:9, ESV

These courses will also complement my wellness clinic. The students may eventually become agents, partners and ambassadors who help introduce others to the clinic. What once seemed like separate experiences—consulting, medical technologies, teaching and relationship-building—are now beginning to come together into one larger purpose.

Building My Own Foundation

In the past, I consulted on treatments such as weight loss and stem-cell therapies, but I did not truly benefit financially because the payments were never made directly to me. I was contributing to other people’s platforms without having a firm foundation of my own.

Today, that has changed.

I now will have my own clinic (location to be decided), retail shop and café. I finally have a physical base from which I can build, serve people and develop a meaningful enterprise. This is a major change from the uncertainty and instability I experienced for many years.

Only two months ago, I had not even imagined that I would open my own clinic. No one saw it coming—not even me. But God’s timing is often different from ours.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
—Ecclesiastes 3:1, ESV

The wilderness season was long, but it was not meaningless. It taught me patience, resilience, humility and dependence on God. It also showed me the importance of building on a foundation that is not controlled by others.

I am reminded of Isaiah 43:19:

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”

—Isaiah 43:19, ESV

Today, I believe I am entering a new season. My destiny is no longer entirely in the hands of others. Through God’s grace, I now have a foundation, a direction and an opportunity to build something that is truly my own.

I am grateful for every door that opened, every door that closed, every lesson learned and every person who became part of the journey. The years of wandering in the wilderness are behind me. Now, by faith, I am moving forward into the purpose and future God has prepared.

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
—Proverbs 16:3, KJV
